Ka-Man Tse: Narrow Distances

CLAGS 2014-2015 Robert Giard Fellow, Ka-man Tse will present her recent work, Narrow Distances,a series of photographs made within the LGBTQ community in Hong Kong between 2014-2015.

She will also screen her video Gahp Song, an ongoing participatory video project that is about food as language, memory, intimacy, trust and play. Filmed over the course of six years, the meals take place in public places and private homes throughout New York, California, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. (Running time of video, 20 minutes.)

Ka-Man Tse (b. Hong Kong) is a photographer and video artist. She received an MFA from Yale University in 2009, and a BA from Bard College in 2003. She has exhibited internationally and nationally; including the Lianzhou Foto Festival in Guangdong, China, the Museum of Chinese in America in New York, NY, the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Cornell University, the Palm Springs Art Museum, Capricious, the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, Gallery 339 in Philadelphia, and the Eighth Veil in Los Angeles. She was a SPARC Artist-in-Residence through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and completed the Artist in the Marketplace Program through the Bronx Museum of Arts. She is the recipient of the 2014-2015 Robert Giard Fellowship. She currently teaches at Yale University, where she was appointed lecturer in 2013, as well Parsons the New School of Design. This spring, she will exhibit photographs from the series, Narrow Distances, at the Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh, PA.
