Giard Fellows on the Move!

Dear Friends of the Robert Giard Foundation,

We hope that you are having a wonderful summer. The following is a brief update on the work of some of our fellows:

Our current fellow, Juan Carlos Zaldivar, continues to make progress on his latest film Alterations and he has started working with the indie group The Philosophers of Nosy Mangabe. His team is finishing the special video effects, sound edits, and color. Up next: creating an interactive website for the project . We can’t wait.

Last year’s fellow, photographer Ka-Man Tse, returned to Hong Kong for six weeks this summer to continue her Giard Foundation funded project. She followed up with people that she photographed last year and interviewed and photographed many new subjects.

Yoruba Richen (Giard Fellow 2011 – 2012) and her team have been screening her film The New Black at colleges and universities around the country. They have given grants to seven historically black colleges and universities which used the film in a series of screenings that drew hundreds of students and faculty and inspired conversations about LGBT inclusion on their campuses. Yoruba and her team also completed the first year of their Empowering Equality campaign in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign. The New Black is now available on iTunes and Netflix. Be sure to check it out if you have not yet seen the film.

Cary Cronenwett (Giard Fellow 2012 – 2013) had his film Peace of Mind premier in June at the Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco, CA. It was also screened at LA’s Outfest and Wisconsin’s Great Poor Farm Experiment exhibition. Upcoming screenings include Glasgow’s Scottish Queer Film Festival in September and New York City’s NewFest in November.

The Robert Giard Foundation is honored to have funded these artists and applaud the wonderful work that they continue to do. Please feel free to share this email within your network. Thank you for your continued support and helping make these projects possible.
