Making History Visible
The Giard Foundation celebrates this year’s progress in achieving equal rights for LGBTQ people. The Foundation helps to make visible the work of al those who came before and paved the way for today’s achievements. Through our website, traveling shows, and access to Robert Giard’s portraits of LGBTQ writers and activists for scholars, journalists, and the media, the Foundation makes history come alive for people around the world.
“It is my wish that tomorrow, when a viewer looks into the eyes of the subjects of these pictures, he or she will say in a spirit of wonder, ‘These people were here; like me, they lived and breathed.’ So too will the portraits and the words which accompany them respond, ‘We were here; we existed. This is how we were.'” – Robert Giard
